J-Killa’s Latest Drop; “Blood” – The Ugly Truth of Today’s Society

Many individuals, who listen to hip-hop music, tend to associate a rapper with the words that they hear often on the songs. They hear those words and think that the person is rapping. They do not think that the person understands what he is doing. This is not always the case. There are many factors that can determine how much a rapper knows and understands about the lyrics they are using. Diving deep into real life situations show an artists’ skill and intellect. J-Killa’s latest album “Love & Pain” includes a song titled “Blood”. I’ve listened to this song a few times and each time it makes me think to myself… Why aren’t other artists’ taking this route?

I often compare well-known rappers to undiscovered ones and a good way to understand the difference between an average rapper and a great rapper is to compare the two with regards to their vocabulary, rhymes and level of conscious. A common rapper, when compared to a lyrical genius, would have very little vocabulary and rhymes that do not make any sense. The truth in music is a valuable find as well, it adds to the artist’s character and dedication to their craft. The term “fake it till you make it” doesn’t phase them at all because they have an inability to do that.

“Blood” painted so many pictures for me. It’s one of those songs that make you sit down and think about the evils of this world.  When you can be as creative as possible with staying true to yourself, it adds so much more authenticity to the music. The best way to do this is to find a medium that allows you to express your unique words and rhyme style. I applaud J-Killa on his efforts to touch on a topic that we don’t hear a lot about in music and I wish a very successful and stress-free career for him.
