Young Bassist-Composer Will Lyle Releases His Debut Jazz Album “LA Source Codes”

Here is the news for all the Jazz lovers! The very talented young bassist-composer Will Lyle releases his debut jazz album “LA Source Codes.” Will’s self-released debut album “LA Source Codes” features Bob Sheppard, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Mahesh Balasooriya, Anthony Fung, Nikki Campbell, Mikan Zlatkovich, Adam Hersh, Jon Mayer, and Roy McCurdy, along with several jazz standards and four of his original compositions. “LA Source Codes” is dedicated to the memory of his jazz mentor, the late Ralph Peterson, Jr.

Will regards bebop and the jazz language as a musical source code. He performs not only fluent solos but also provides stimulating accompaniment that clearly inspires his sidemen.

Born in Southern California, Will Lyle is a bandleader, composer, arranger, and producer who plays upright and electric bass. Will was passionate about music; he started learning cello when he was three years old. He also played drums, guitar, piano, and percussion before picking up electric bass at twelve. He always wanted to become a producer, for which he even went to Berklee; however, after listening to Paul Chambers and Scott LaFaro, he decided to become the bassist.

Will Lyle put in up to 12 hours of practice per day. In 2017, after graduating from Berklee College of Music, he toured Japan with GRAMMY award-winning drummer Billy Kilson, relocated to Los Angeles, and has since worked with many top artists, including the musicians featured on this release.

After a year of playing in Los Angeles, Will joined hard bop pianist Jon Mayer’s trio. Since then, he has also performed with Ralph Peterson, Bob Sheppard, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Pasquale Grasso, Ralph Moore, Joshua Breakstone, Randy Napoleon, and others. He has worked as a session bassist on the TV show “Escape at Dannemora,” as well as on LA veteran pianist and GRAMMY foundation member Rob Mullins’ 2018 release “The Nearness of You.”

”LA Source Codes” is now available on all major platforms, including Spotify. For more details about Will Lyle’s upcoming projects, visit his website: http://wlylejazz.com/
