Why You Need to Know Shedell
HI, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS SHEDELL IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
Hi! I am so excited to share with you! I was born in Brooklyn New York and raised in South Florida. Acting was never on the radar for me. One day my eldest child expressed concern that “I needed a life” LOL! So, I auditioned for a play and was cast, and now here I am in Hollywood.
I am an experience seeker, constantly seeking new ways to experience life. I’ve gone from being a mountain woman, farmer, to now being an actress. I think that’s what I love most about being an actress, I get to experience so many lives without moving all over the country.
HOW DID YOU START AND HOW WAS YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY?
I started when I lived in rural Oregon. I was “encouraged” by my daughter to be in a play at a small local theater, I fell in love instantly! My first time on set was as background for Hulu’s Shrill. I remember wanting to get as close to Aidy Bryant to see her in action.
TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR LAST MOVIE, “AMSTERDAM.”HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?
Ah! Amsterdam! One of my first background gigs here in LA. I was hanging out in background holding when I heard a PA’s walkie going off “we need someone that can cry on cue”. I didn’t hesitate, I walked right up to him and advocated for myself. Next thing you know I was on set getting lines from David O. Russell and just like that I joined the amazing cast to Amsterdam. I’m still shook.
OUT OF SO MANY ROLES THAT YOU HAVE PERFORMED AS AN ACTOR, WHICH ONE IS YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY?
This is so hard. I have worked with so many amazing directors, but I am going to have to go with a Short Film I am currently in production with. The writer and director is an amazing Black woman Searit Huluf, and it is refreshing portraying a Black woman written by a ummmm Black Woman, LOL!
WHAT TYPE OF ROLE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF PLAYING IN THE FUTURE?
Anything ethereal in fantasy or steam punk. I mean anything to escape this world and bring audiences with me to, for a short time just leave this world behind.
WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU: YOUR CELEBRITY STATUS OR THE ADORATION YOU RECEIVE FROM YOUR FANS FOR YOUR ENCHANTING PERFORMANCES?
The theater has always been an opportunity for audiences to leave their troubles behind for a short time and join in empathy for the characters before them. If I get to be a part of people feeling carefree for a few moments, then my craft truly has purpose and that is what is most important to me.
WHAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US?
I mean having had my own micro farm is pretty wild.
ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS/ROLES YOU CAN TALK ABOUT?
I have a few projects still in production that I am really excited about, Dark Country the series, The Night Boyz, and Chef are all amazing and I am blessed to get to be a part of them.
WHAT IS ONE MESSAGE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO YOUR FANS?
THANK YOU! Truly, thank you for believing in me!
