Twitter CEO Elon Musk says $8 monthly fee for blue tick

Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk says that Twitter will charge $8 for its blue service, in his push to monetize the service and make the social media platform less dependent on ads. “To all the complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8,” tweeted the Tesla CEO and SpaceX owner.

Elon Musk also added that the prices will be adjusted as per a country’s purchasing power equality. He added that people with blue ticks will have ample benefits, which include, “priority in replies, mentions and search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam, the ability to post long video and audio and half as many ads”.

Twitter is recently acquired by Elon Musk for a whopping $44 billion. After buying the social media platform, Musk wasted no time and fired Twitter’s top leaders, including CEO Paras Agarwal, CFO Ned Segal, and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.

Serving as Twitter’s sole director, Elon Musk is receiving a lot of backlash on the blue tick fee decision. “Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for USD 8/month,” he tweeted.

Elon Musk reasons that he does not Twitter to rely on advertising alone. “You will also get: Priority in replies, mentions and search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam. Ability to post long video and audio,” Musk added in a tweet.
