Sundog – Gianfranco Pescetti

Gianfranco Pescetti has led a varied and artistically eclectic life. Having studied ballet and music as a youngster, as well as dancing professionally, by the time he was in his twenties, he was focused solely on music, and by 1988 he was resident in San Francisco and immersed in the vibrant music scene of that city as a bass player with several bands.

His first album, Love Is Rain, came out in 2014, and the delay between that album and this recent single, Sundog, was because he went back to college to earn a degree in Landscape Architecture.

But now, he is back on the music-making trail, and Sundog sees him return to the ambient and gentle drifting music which defined that album. Its wilfully lazy beats and ability to ebb and flow rather than push and pull makes for a soothing and sweet sound.

It blends subtle bass grooves with electronic washes, understated but constant dance beats, and more sophisticated sounds and structures. It might not be a big sound, but it is clever. An excellent track and a great way of saying he is back in the game. I, for one, can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.
