Meet Trending Hip-Hop Artist Truefatgod

I had the privilege to interview Rapper & Songwriter Charles Allen Gray, better known by his stage name Truefatgod became greatly known last year after he dropped his “I’m Back” freestyle. Read the interview to find out more.

TELL US WHAT YOUR LIFE WAS LIKE GROWING UP?
To be completely honest, life really wasn’t too hard for me as a kid. Luckily my people always made sure that I had a roof over my head, food to eat, good clothes to wear and all that good stuff. Now I’m not saying that we was rich, but looking at all the statistics, my life could have been a-lot worse.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO PICK UP THE MICROPHONE AND START MAKING MUSIC?
Good question, originally I was just making beats here and there on the school computer. It was only until recent years that I got a computer of my own to make music on. I remember doing a ton of research on free studio software (because I was broke) and I eventually ran across FL Studio Demo version. Eventually, I started making pretty good beats on FL Studio Demo and one day I just decided that I would sell some beats and get some money to buy a microphone. I still remember vividly the amount of sheer joy and accomplishment I felt when I finally got my first microphone. But once I finally got my microphone set up right on my computer, I recorded my single“I’m Back” and the rest is history.

HOW DID YOU LEARN HOW TO MIX AND MASTER YOUR SINGLE “I’M BACK” AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE?
Like I said man, lots and lots of research! Youtube was a big help in teaching me all the ropes and so on. At the time, I didn’t have any friends who knew anything about music so the Internet was really all I had for real.

HOW DID YOU PICK THE NAME TRUEFATGOD?
Believe it or not man I get that question all the time and still til this day I don’t really have an answer. I would like to say that I put some thought into it and say that it has some type of cool meaning but it doesn’t. I’m sure I was just bored one day and that name just happened to pop up in my mind.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY TO READERS THAT ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
Don’t let the Instagram posts fool you! Music is hard work and if you are not ready for the time and commitment then music is not for you. You have to believe in yourself and you have to want success for yourself more than anything!
