Meet Brandon Rembert: A Division 1 Baseball Player at Alcorn State

HEY BRANDON! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US. CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS BRANDON REMBERT IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
I am a baseball player at Division 1 Alcorn State University.  I play mainly right field for them.  I have hopes of getting drafted to the MLB one day. I am currently getting my masters there too.  All in all, I think I am a fun and hardworking guy that is just trying to achieve my goals and dreams

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY FROM THE EARLY DAYS TO PRESENT?
Well, my collegiate baseball journey actually started at NAIA program Faulkner University.  I was actually on the JV team there.  I then transferred to Coastal Alabama Community College in Alabama for my sophomore season.  After that, I signed to Alcorn State which is the school that I am attending. So, I feel like I had a pretty interesting journey to say the least.

WHO HAS BEEN YOUR IDOL OR THE PERSON WHO HAS INFLUENCED YOU THE MOST?
I would say my idols would be my parents.  They work really hard for my family and will do anything for us.  The people that have influenced me the most I would say are my parents and grandparents.  They have always provided for me and took me to most of my practices and games.  They were always there for me.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE BASEBALL PLAYER?
I would have to say my favorite baseball player would be Mookie Betts of the LA Dodgers.  I admire the way he plays the game.  He is a great player and a good role model.  He is the prime example that size doesn’t matter in baseball.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE AS A DIVISION 1 BASEBALL PLAYER?
Well, for me I wake up and get a good balanced breakfast in me.  Then I will most likely head to the weight room after to get my lift in.  After that I will go to my classes for the day.  I will then probably grab some lunch and then rest a bit before practice.  Then I will head to practice for about 3 hours.  After practice I will grab some dinner and then maybe head to the library for the night and do homework.  I do this about every day.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST CHERISHED MOMENT SO FAR AS A PLAYER?
I can’t really think about one specific moment, but the moments I do cherish are the ones I was able to play on TV.  Growing up as kid I always saw the college players play on TV and wanted to be like them.  I am so grateful that I finally got the opportunity to play on TV.  It is a dream come true.  It is honestly a great experience.  It is also cool that my family can watch some games on TV because they might not be able to make all of them in real life.

SO, APART FROM BASEBALL, WHAT OTHER SPORTS DO YOU FOLLOW?
I like to watch many sports outside of baseball.  I follow football and basketball mainly.  I actually like college football a ton.  I also enjoy watching softball too because my sisters play.

AS A SPORTSPERSON, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOOD AND BAD ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA?
I think social media is good because it is a good way to communicate with others and to really market and grow your brand on there.  It can also be used for fun and entertainment. One of the bad things about social media is that people on there can be very mean and say hurtful things on there.  Social media can invite a lot of haters and can give people a platform to say mean things behind a screen.  So, social medial does have its ups and downs.

HOW IMPORTANT IS PERSONAL BRANDING FOR SPORTSPERSON AND WHAT YOU DO TO GROW YOUR BRAND?
I feel like personal branding is very important for a sportsperson.  It is good for professional athletes to have their own brand because at the point that they turn pro, it actually becomes a job for them. So, it is definitely a good thing for a sportsperson to have their own brand.  I currently do not have my own brand, but I do have social media so that fans can kind of get a look at my life.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO YOUNG BASEBALL PLAYERS WHO ARE COMING UP?
Some advice I would give to them is that anything is possible and to never give up on your dreams. I can attest to that statement. Work hard every day and be consistent in everything that you do to put yourself in the best position to accomplish your goals.
