Medical Doctor Abducted in Afghanistan

A US/German medical doctor named Monica Lindenhof have been kidnapped in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

The doctor who works with doctors without border has not been seen since November 2021.

Dr Monica specialized in taking care of mostly women and children suffering from high-risk diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, hepatitis, and others.

Our correspondent, Carl Martins reports that kidnappings sometimes for ransom are serious problems in Afghanistan and aid workers are often targeted.

It was learnt that the fear of uncertainty gripped evacuated colleagues of the doctor as they said the abductors were Taliban fighters.

Taliban representatives have said they did not carry out the abduction, but it is believed that a splinter group of men fighting under the Taliban ‘s flag and ideology carried out the abduction.

According to a Taliban Deputy leader, Sirajuddin Haqqani “little could be done by anybody, but I call out to the brothers who have abducted the doctor, if they can hear my voice, I ask that they release the doctor because she is a doctor, and she can be anybody’s doctor as doctors serve all the people”.

Rumor has it that the Taliban might be secretly seeking negotiations with the US government for Taliban prisoners to be released in return for abducted health workers.

Other sources claim that a faction of the Taliban could have kidnapped the good doctor for ransom.

We all wish the good doctor well and pray for her safety.
