LAMIA: AN ARTIST WITH SOMETHING TO SAY AND THE VOICE TO BACK IT UP

LAMIA is a vocalist, producer and composer based between London and Berlin. She is a 2020 MusicBoard Berlin scholar, an exceptionally competitive artist development scholarship that supports a handful of up-and-coming artists each year. LAMIA composes, records, performs and produces her own material.

Her debut EP SIMULACRA was self-produced, written and recorded in studios at renowned Funkhaus Berlin. Mixed by James Kenosha and mastered by Enyang Urbicks (Arca, Stella Sommer). The visual presentation of the EP explores digital identity curation through social media from a female-identifying perspective. In particular, the impact on self-perception and emotion in the physical world. LAMIA collaborated with Nebraska based artist Brian Hart to create 3D spatial assets of computer rendered portraits titled ‘Simulacra States’. The series warps digital and physical aesthetics to explore alienation from the human body in favour of digitalised presentation.

LAMIA is inspired by PC music and combines this with industrial techno-influenced sounds, rich vocals and cinematic, low-fi soundscapes. Inspired by the emotive aethereal qualities of early Clams Casino and the orchestral nature of Arca’s synthesis, LAMIA combines this with noughties film score sounds. Her skillful compositional arrangements create sophisticated and emotive sound-worlds in which her rich, haunting vocal sits.
