Interview with Petit Afro – World’s Most Trending Afro Dance Choreographer

I had the privilege to interview one of the world’s most trending Afro Dance Choreographer Petit Afro; he is from Holland and has over 1.43m subscribers on YouTube. I have been following Petit closely, and after chasing him for long – FINALLY, I could manage to chat with him and here are the questions I asked to know his personal brand better:

PLEASE, BRIEFLY INTRODUCE YOURSELF, WHO IS PETIT AFRO IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
My name is Petit Afro I’m a professional afro dance choreographer Born in Tanzania but I’m based in Holland and Spain for 13 years now. I teach dance to mostly kids.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE UP DANCE AS A PROFESSION?
It was back in 2012 after the owner of a dance school saw me dancing and asked me if I couldn’t teach at his dance studio

NYONGA IS ONE OF YOUR MOST TRENDING VIDEO, ACCORDING TO YOU WHAT’S THE SECRET OF ITS SUCCESS?
Nyonga is so special because I did it in Uganda with very talented kids called ” Masaka Kids Afrikana” it is also a comedy song which makes people very happy when they watch. The fact that the video was done in Africa I think that makes it even more special.

WE WOULD LOVE TO WATCH YOU DANCING ON BOLLYWOOD NUMBER, HAVE YOU EVER DANCED ON BOLLYWOOD SONG?
Haha, I would also love to, no I haven’t danced to any Bollywood song before but I grew up watching Bollywood movies and songs. I also get messages from fans who are in India so I think one day I will dance on Bollywood song special for them

WHO FOLLOWS YOU AND WHY?
People around the world follow me especially kids, Kids love the way I teach and I add a lot of humor in my dance steps. Most of them want to learn how to dance from me

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A DANCER?
Groove, musicality and smile while dancing, energy is also very important. My Afro dance has a lot of joy in it so is important for people to show it while dancing.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?
My greatest achievement I would say is the youtube channel with 1.4 million subscribers and over 200 million views in total, my videos are being watched worldwide by millions. In 2015 I won a TV show in The Netherland called “ Everybody dance now “ I also danced for the queen of the Netherland and worked with big artist like P square and Diamond Platnumz. I have also been travelling around the world teaching afro dance.

WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGES IN YOUR DANCE/ CHOREOGRAPHY CAREER?
When some people don’t like that fact that I teach afro dance to white kids. It a bit challenging but I believe that dancing is for everyone.
