Interview With Singer-Songwriter Isaac Grinsdale

HEY ISAAC! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF. WHO IS ISAAC GRINSDALE IN HIS OWN WORDS?
Hi, thanks for the opportunity. My name is Isaac Grinsdale and I am a singer-songwriter with alternative rock influences in my music. Since I was quite young, I’ve always loved rock music. Overtime as I got more into my acoustic guitar, but I still try to blend those early influences in.

WHAT ARE YOUR INFLUENCES, WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO MAKE MUSIC?
Yeah, as I mentioned I was really into rock music when I was younger. I was majorly influenced by the band Refused. They had the ethos that, as musicians, we should be playing at the very edge of our abilities and being as creative as possible, otherwise we are not writing the type of music we should be. It’s always something that’s stuck with me and frames the way I write and play music.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST START TO WRITE MUSIC?
I think I wrote my first song when I was 13. It was very much a corny pop song thinking back to it now, but you have got to start somewhere, I guess. Ever since then I have not been able to put the guitar down. I have toured up and down the UK extensively and have had the privilege of playing in front of some major crowds such as when I supported minus the bear air in Leeds. That was a great support slot with nearly a thousand people in the audience.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A MUSICIAN?
Sticking at it through thick and thin has been the hardest part of being a musician. Sometimes you have gigs which inspire you to carry on, sometimes you have gigs where there’s a handful of people who really do not care. Keeping the more positive memories at the forefront can be a challenge but it is the way forward.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST RELEASE.
I released my first solo acoustic EP last year which was called entertainment and I’ve had the great reception from that so far. It was mixed by myself because my main line of work is my mixing and mastering service. The only problem was because I was so close to the music it was quite hard to let go.  But I got there in the end!
