Interview With Singer-Songwriter Andersen Hugh
SO GLAD YOU’RE HERE, ANDERSEN! LET’S START, CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS ANDERSEN HUGH IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
I’m just a normal kid who loves to have fun, make music and entertain people. There’s just something about putting on a show that makes me so happy and I don’t get that feeling from anywhere else. It’s truly very special to me. Haha, I guess Andersen Hugh in my own words is an optimistic dreamer who has a bit of a wild side to him. I’m definitely my own person and I think my life is a movie sometimes so I try to make it as exciting as possible. I’m content but never satisfied.
TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU STARTED MAKING MUSIC?
Growing up I always loved singing and performing but when I hit puberty my voice changed and I wasn’t really messing with that so I stopped singing. Then, with encouragement from my sister, I found the prblm slvrs and they totally gave my love of music back. I’ve been learning everything from those guys and I think they are musical geniuses. I’m so lucky to have them as my mentors and we’ve been creating some awesome songs. I can’t wait for everyone to hear them.
WHO INSPIRES YOUR PLAYING STYLE? WHICH ARTISTS CAN WE REFER TO?
This is a tough question just because my music is so authentic and I don’t try to imitate anyone’s sound but artists that I listen to definitely have a huge effect on my life which has an effect on my music. So I guess I would have to say Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, Post Malone, Justin Bieber and many more but those are who I am thinking of at this moment.
WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE? HOW DO YOU START WRITING A MUSIC PIECE? HOW DO YOU BEGIN YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
So my creative process is, I’ll link with the prblm slvrs and we’ll just talk about how we’re feeling what we’ve been up to and just hang out. It’s different every time but a topic, feeling, or a random story will be told and we’ll just go off of that and start creating. There really is no method to the madness. We created the song ‘Explore’ just off of me talking about UFOs.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW SONG, ‘WHILE WE’RE YOUNG’. EXPLAIN THE STORY BEHIND IT.
‘While We’re Young’ is a song that describes youth culture today and is just an anthem for my generation. It’s a fun song that I hope people can party and let go to. Everyone needs a song like ‘While We’re Young.’ The story behind this song is one day in the studio we were talking about partying and Rian said we should make a youth anthem and we just had a lot of fun making that song and you can definitely feel the energy and party atmosphere when you listen to it.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE A SOLO PERFORMING ARTIST?
Don’t be afraid to take chances. People take life too seriously and I think more should follow their dreams no matter what they are. Trust your instincts, believe in yourself, make sure you have good people around you, stay positive and just keep going
LASTLY, WHAT ARE YOUR MUSIC GOALS FOR THIS YEAR, AND HOW ARE YOU WORKING TOWARD ACHIEVING THEM?
My music goals for the rest of the year is to just keep moving forward, hopefully grow my fan base and to keep growing as an artist and as a person.
