Interview With Rising Star: Alessandro De Gennaro

There is nothing in this world like an acting career. Getting inside somebody else’s skin and portraying their emotions, impulses and objectives is something out of this world. Not everybody can do it. That is why this career is so special to me, because I am one of those individuals that can do it and will probably keep on doing it until the day that I die.

It all started for me when I graduated high school. I always kind of knew that I wanted to be an actor, but I never had the courage to pursue it until I graduated. For some dumb reason I felt judged by the kids in my school and that always made me back-down from theatre plays and wonderful drama clubs. I guess it is one of those regrets that I will have for a long time, but nevertheless I am pursuing this wonderful career now and I am striving like I always knew I would. When I was 19 years old, I went to Columbia College Chicago to do a BFA in Theatre, but two years into that college I stumbled upon the wonderful school: The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. It began with an 8-week intensive summer program and before I knew it, I was already transferring to AADA in Los Angeles and to be honest, it has been the best decision I have ever made for my career. The teachers, the students, the projects, the city, the inspiration. It was all there.

During my time at “The American Academy of Dramatic Arts” I was able to participate in wonderful theatre plays and excellent short films like: Anoranza, Perdoname Dios, The 5 Dimensions of a Word and many more. It has been three years since I graduated from school and started pursuing this career professionally and things couldn’t be going better for me. Now I am happy to say that I am working with the best manager that I could ask for (Spellbound Entertainment) and a wonderful agent (Global Artists Agency) with whom I am moving my career forward and opening opportunities in places I could’ve only dreamed of. All of this comes from hard-work, discipline and my most important tool: Persistence. We are all born with persistence, it all depends on how well each of us use this wonderful thing. And I must say that in my case, it has always been my priority to be persistent and always move forward. Because at the end of the day, if I am not putting in the work and doing something about it, somebody else is going to do it.

Great things are aligned for my future, and I am positive about it. Last year I filmed a non-paying independent series called: Here Comes Your Man, which is now available on the streaming platform DEKKOO. Each passing day I am getting closer to my goals and closer to hopefully moving to Los Angeles, which is where I want to be working and growing in my career.
