PLEASE, BRIEFLY INTRODUCE YOURSELF, WHO IS JOLENE CHERRY IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
My name is Jolene Cherry, and I’m a fitness coach, personal trainer, and yoga instructor by profession. I operate my own business, primarily out of Portland, Oregon, but have recently dedicated time and resources to expand my online outreach. I’m humbled that each day I get to help people achieve well-being via exercise, mindfulness, and proper nutrition.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD?
Growing up, I had extremely low self-esteem and was uncomfortable in my skin. The summer before my freshman year of high school, I took a chance to join the cross country team. While participating in the sport, I had some terrific coaches and mentors, and ever since, I’ve been passionate about embracing a healthy lifestyle. As I matured, this passion compounded on itself. I knew that I wanted to build my career around helping others achieve their fitness goals, whether through yoga, traditional exercise, or nutritional guidance. I’ve never looked back.
HOW MUCH DO YOU ENJOY HELPING PEOPLE LOOK AND FEEL THEIR BEST?
I help give people the confidence to put in the work to achieve real results. Fitness is not always a clearcut path, but with the right knowledge and dedication, it’s absolutely attainable. I love going on that journey with my clients.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CRITICAL PART OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY?
Hands down, building relationships, and a community with active conversations, whether it’s online or in-person. Embracing a healthy lifestyle is so enjoyable when you do it amongst friends and a positive climate.
WHAT IS ONE HABIT OF YOURS THAT MAKES YOU A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR?
Patience, persistence, and pacing. Life isn’t a sprint but rather a marathon with ever-changing terrain and obstacles. You need to be mindful of the present and dig deep to keep going when it gets tough.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR YOUR BUSINESS? WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
The fitness world is always full of new fads. Still, I’m most excited about tech innovation: everything from wearable fitness bands to smart water bottles that track your water intake to live streaming a personal training session. I think there’s enormous growth in the latter.
