Interview – Dennis Mailu Talks ‘Bald Patch: The Black Supper’

Seasoned actor Dennis Mailu has just wrapped his latest movie, a psychological thriller filmed in a secluded cabin in the San Bernadino woods. We caught up with the actor to chat acting and his role in ‘Bald Patch: The Black Supper’

HELLO DENNIS MAILU, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER!THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME TO SPEAK WITH US TODAY. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE. BEFORE WE DIG IN DEEP, WHO INSPIRED YOU TO BE AN ACTOR?
Thank you for having me! Well inspiration to be an actor has come to me through various forms and not one particular person. From Saturday morning cartoons, fiction novels, movies and comic books, the art of expression has always been cultivated and simmering within me, acting is my way of showcasing it!

WE LOVE YOUR UNIQUE HERITAGE. FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT KNOW YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Thank you! I was born and raised in Nairobi in Kenya, and I am from the Kamba ethnic tribe. I speak my native tongue Kikamba and Swahili as well!
I left Africa and studied in the United Kingdom and have been fortunate to travel to other parts of Africa and Europe before coming to the United States. Interacting with different nationalities and cultures has broadened my point of view which is key for my creative process in that I accept every given circumstance and live moment to moment in a performance.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW MOVIE ‘BALD PATCH (THE BLACK SUPPER)’

This movie is a thriller and follows Bola Rhodes (Opeyemi Hammed) who, after losing her entire family, is left with the difficult burden of moving on. However, her decision making takes an ominous turn when she meets Daniel and the Mute Man of the Bridge, a cult like organization who make her contemplate between her own life and death. This is a story of mental health, love, and acceptance.
It was directed by Jide Kol and written by Jeffrey Bowie Jr. and Prince Adu Mensah.

WHAT CHARACTER DO YOU PORTRAY IN THE FILM?
I play Daniel, Head of the Bridge Organization. He is a stern and calculated individual who has been through some hardships in his past life and taken it upon himself to aid others in overcoming the same hurdles with the aid of his trusty right hand The Mute Man (Dayveontay Pedraza). However, Daniels’ methods to attain challenge ethics and are dark, unorthodox, and controversial at best.

CAN YOU SHARE ANY FUN FACTS FROM THE SET?
Sure! We had Nigerian food on set, which was awesome. The rice and curry was delicious! I was also lucky enough to work with weapons and different props on set. I love expanding my knowledge and craft.

CAN YOU TELL US YOUR BEST OR MOST MEMORABLE SHOWBIZ MOMENT SO FAR?
My most memorable moment would be my red carpet event in Hollywood for the screening of Blue Light Melody at the legendary TCL Chinese Theatre, a historic landmark which has graced many premieres since the Golden Age of Hollywood.

TELL US SOMETHING PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Haha.Well, I can make the bleating sound of a goat perfectly. Hopefully this comes in handy in a Voiceover job in the future!

WHAT IS ONE MOTTO YOU LIVE BY?
I believe in Awakened Imagination and what we assume to be true is what we will ultimately manifest. If you can imagine it and feel it, it makes way into your reality. Imagination is creation.
