How to Cope with Allergies and Asthma

Coping with allergies and asthma can be extremely difficult sometimes, and you may sometimes become fed up with your allergies and wish that they would go away. However, there are many ways that you can cope with your allergies and asthma and ensure that you can live a full and healthy life, and here are some of them.

Visit the Vet

You should know that some of the bugs and insects that your pet can track inside or become infested with can kick off your allergies, especially in cases such as flea allergies, when they can bite you and infest your home too. This can then leave you with weeks or months of watery eyes and a runny nose. If you are an allergy or asthma sufferer, you should consider visiting a vet to make sure that your pet is insect free, to get flea and worming treatments, and ensure that their overall health is intact. For instance, at they offer you all of the care that you will need to have a pet at home even if you also have to manage your allergies.

Find the Right Treatment

Although this can take a little bit of trial and error, to make sure that you can live a full life when you have allergies, it is important that you look around for the right treatment as this can substantially reduce your symptoms. For instance, you might go through a selection of antihistamines to find one that works for you and that does not have nasty side effects, such as drowsiness or a sore throat, which might be one of the symptoms that you are trying to get rid of. If none of the over-the-counter prescriptions are working for you, or if you have asthma, you should visit your doctor and they may be able to prescribe you stronger medication or offer you an inhaler.

Make Your Home a Safe Space

You also need to ensure that your home is a safe space for your allergies since you will be spending the majority of your time there. For instance, you should make sure that you wash your sheets regularly if you are allergic to fur, dust or pollen, that you are careful when opening the windows and look at getting air conditioning and an air purifier instead. You should also make sure that you take your outdoor shoes and clothes off when you enter your home if you get hay fever, and that you take any necessary steps to keep allergens out of your home.

Wear a Mask

If you are struggling with allergies when you are out and about, masks are not only useful for preventing COVID-19, but they can also be useful as they can protect you from allergens, such as pollen, and can prevent them from entering your system. However, masks may aggravate some allergy symptoms, such as a sore throat, and so you should make a careful judgement on whether wearing a mask for allergies is a good option for you.
