Google lays off more than 450 employees in India

Google’s CEO announced last month that layoffs would begin, and it would start first in the United States followed by other markets. As per a report, around 453 people were laid off through an official email late at night on Thursday from Google’s India offices.

The report added that laid-offs took place in various departments. The CEO Sundar Pichai said in the email that he takes “full responsibility for the decisions that led us here” in the email to the affected employees.

The mail was sent by Sanjay Gupta, country head and vice president of Google India, to the affected employees, according to a report by Businessline. The firing has impacted workers across departments such as marketing, sales and partnerships.

The action is taken after Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company, announced cutting 12,000 jobs or six per cent of its total employees last month. On the other hand, many Indian employees expressed on LinkedIn that are disappointed with the way the firing happened.

“Over the past two years, we’ve seen periods of dramatic growth. To match and fuel that growth, we hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today,” Google CEO wrote in the email he sent to workers last month.
