Getting to know Cheaper By The Dozen Star Andre Robinson

HI ANDRE! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS ANDRE ROBINSON IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
I am the youngest in a family of five—Dad, Mom, two older sisters, ages 29 and 23, a Shepherd named Riley, and a fish named Ocean.  We absolutely LOVE traveling together (except my Dad is not a fan of flying).  I just graduated High School in December 2021 (Yay!) and my plan is to attend a local University in Spring 2023.  I love family, friends, traveling, my discipleship group at church, and delicious foods.

YOU STARTED YOUR CAREER WHEN YOU WERE 6 YEARS OLD; HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?
When I was six years old, my mom quit her job to stay home with me.  Her friend, who managed children, encouraged her to put me in the entertainment industry and she decided to give it a try. In the beginning, I remember just having lots of fun. As I grew older—around age 9—I fell in love with the business. It’s what I want to do for the rest of my life!

WHAT PIQUED YOUR INTEREST IN VOICE OVER? WHAT’S THAT IT IS STILL IGNITING IN YOU?
The first job I booked was a movie entitled Kumba! It was my first voiceover job as a baby meerkat in the film. After that I literally kept booking voiceover jobs and fell in love with it. It’s my greatest passion and my goal is to be a Voice Director.

YOU APPEAR TO BE PUTTING IN A LOT OF EFFORT IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE. HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN A SOCIAL LIFE IN THE MIDST OF ALL OF THIS?
My mom has always made weekends a priority for me since I had school, work, and auditions during the week. No school was done on weekends and it’s rare that I’d work or audition on weekends. I’ve maintained that because it worked really well. I play hard on weekends with friends and sometimes I like to just chill.

GIVEN THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED VOICEOVERS FOR A PLETHORA OF FEATURE FILMS, WHICH ONE IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE?
My favorite is the feature film entitled Bilal:A New Breed of Hero. I voiced young Bilal and had the honor of working with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (adult Bilal) and Jacob Latimore (teen Bilal).  Surprisingly, the writer, Ayman Jamal, invited us to the premiere in Doha, Qatar! We couldn’t believe our eyes when my mom and I read the invitation.  The people of Doha were so welcoming and kind.  The country is absolutely beautiful.  It was such a life-changing experience.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOST RECENT PROJECT, DJING FOR DISNEY, AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE.
I’m number 6 of 12 kids in Cheaper By The Dozen. I play DJ, Gabrielle Union’s biological son in the film. DJ is lovable, super smart, and nerdy. Comic books and superheroes totally excite him. That was easy to play because I actually love comic books and superheroes in real life.  This was my first “on-camera” movie, and it has definitely given me a greater appreciation for theatrical work. I learned a lot, had so much fun, and I’m eager for what’s next theatrically.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO HELP THE HOMELESS, AND HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU’VE DONE SOMETHING GOOD FOR THEM?

My Dad inspired me. He has ministered to the homeless all my life. He’d take me with him to give them food, water, and money, and many times he’d have me hand it to them. He made sure they were humanized, without judgment. It warms my heart to help those in need. I definitely have my dad’s heart.

WHAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US?
I had rough beginnings. I was born with a hole in my heart and had open heart surgery at 7 months old. It was successful, so thankfully, I only needed one surgery. I rolled over for the first time at 8 months old and sat up for the first time at 9 months. Ever since then my parents said I couldn’t be stopped.

ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS/ROLES YOU CAN TALK ABOUT?
Currently, I work behind the scenes with looping on two television series and various movies. Happily, I’ll be working with The Loud House again soon in a guest star role.  I’m also waiting to hear if I booked a lead role in an animation film.  I won’t know until April.  Fingers crossed!  I’m also scheduled to do voice in a movie that I don’t even know the name of. They’re keeping it from the voice actors until we arrive. LOL

WHAT IS ONE MESSAGE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO YOUR FANS?
Dream big and do the work to make your dreams come to life. Don’t focus on what others are doing, and definitely don’t let people discourage you. Stay focused and determined.
