Exclusive Interview with Brooklyn Based Rapper -Citizen Schraider
HI CITIZEN SCHRAIDER! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! HOW DID YOU COME BY YOUR STAGE NAME?
It’s an arrangement of my actual birth name, My real name is Schraider Romalli Michel.
WHAT PUSHES YOU TO MAKE MUSIC TODAY?
What pushes me is the benefits, and the fact that I actually enjoy it. Like, I’ve realised that everything else I was doing, I didn’t enjoy as much as I did with this. Music isn’t something you can just be one foot in, one foot out—you have to be all in.
TO WHAT OR WHOM DO YOU ACCREDIT YOUR SENSE OF STYLE?
My style comes from various artists and genres as well. I listen to everything. Metallica, Tupac, Carti, Uzi, Whitechapel, and everything in-between. I think the diversity is the reason for my un-natural cadence.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGES AS AN ARTIST, AND WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ATTRIBUTE WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR WORK ETHIC?
One of the greatest challenges as an artist is getting people to actually sit down, and listen to your music. Everyone want’s to support artists that have already made it, but when you’re underground it’s like everyone wants to sleep on you. That, and the budget to make things happen. Video shoots, photoshoots, social media promotions. It’s all a balancing act, between that, and having money to live your actual life.
WHAT IMPRESSION WOULD YOU LIKE LISTENERS TO BE LEFT WITH AFTER HEARING YOUR MUSIC?
I would like listeners to be left with the impression that I can be every new artist they’re looking for in one. I can be the guy that raps on sad compositions, catchy club songs, hard underground bangers, and even orchestrated measures. I’m not limited to a certain sub-genre like most artists, and I’d like to be recognized for that.
WHO WOULD YOU SAY ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVOURITE ARTISTS IN THE DRILL SCENE RIGHT NOW?
I really like Kendrick Lamar, Future, Drake and the other 2 are some Haitian artists.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?
My plans for the near future are to put out better quality content, and consistently push to better myself as an artist.
SO, BY THE END OF THIS YEAR, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU?
International collabs, Better videos, and my album’s coming soon.
