Elyse Jewel Speaks New Music and How Music Has Helped Her

Elyse Jewel, 16 year old Pop Singer-Songwriter, was surrounded by music growing up and was introduced to the likes of Eric Clapton and musical theater by her dad and listened to Taylor Swift religiously. Inspired by Taylor, Elyse decided she wanted to be a music artist. Now, she takes inspiration from not only her childhood favorites, but Julia Micheals and Olivia O’brien. Elyse has struggled with anxiety, but music enables Elyse to live authentically and open up. Elyse has had the opportunity to work with Grammy nominated and Top Billboard singers, songwriters, and producers including Nash Overstreet, Shane Stevens and Kristin Chenoweth. She has performed at venues in the Dallas-Fort Worth area such as The House of Blues, Lava Cantina, The Gaylord Texas, Gilley’s, and the Plano Balloon Festival. Elyse’s debut single “Thinking About You” had won Pop Song of the Year through the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2019. She is constantly working on new music and cannot wait to share a new single in February of 2021!

CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS ELYSE JEWEL IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
I would describe myself as passionate and hardworking. As an artist I want to share my music with people and be able to connect with others through songs. I’m an advocate for mental health, and through my platforms, I want to reach people and show that there is always someone there for you. I want my music to touch and allow people to feel connected with me and each other.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALIZE THAT YOU WANT TO WORK IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?
Ever since I was little, I always had a passion for music. I remember jumping on my bed and singing Taylor Swift. I would put on concerts for my parents and make little tickets for them to watch me. Throughout elementary school I begged my mom to put me in music lessons, and when I was eight, I started. Ever since then, I’ve been working really hard on writing and pursuing a music career. Music has always been in my family and it’s something that I am just so passionate about.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A SINGER AND ACTRESS AND WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES IN ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?
I love meeting new people through the arts and finding people who love the same things I do. Music and acting is also an amazing outlet for me because it allows me to express myself in a way words can’t. I’ve been so inspired by strong female artists like Julia Michaels and Taylor Swift!

WHAT IS THAT ONE THING THAT YOU ALWAYS KEEP IN YOUR MIND WHILE PREPARING YOUR CONTENT FOR SOCIAL MEDIA? AND HOW IMPORTANT ARE INSTAGRAM “LIKES” TO YOU?
I always want to keep my posts personable and fun, while still showing my passion. The most important thing on social media for me is connecting with my fans. I think it’s so important to meet new people and connect with each other. I used to think likes were important, however; as I’ve grown older, I have realized that they don’t mean everything. The most important thing is having that personal connection with people, because talking feels a lot better than looking at  the number of likes you get on a post.

WHAT IS A RANDOM FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT YOU CAN SHARE WITH US?
I would say that I have an obsession with Harry Potter. I got into it around 7th grade and have been in love with the world ever since. I even started writing a song based off of Draco Malfoy’s character which I may release in the future! I am also proud to announce that I am a Ravenclaw!

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?
I’m currently working on new music and excited to announce that I’m going to release a song on February 5th, so stay tuned!

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO ASPIRING ARTIST?
Believe in yourself!!! It’s taken me so long to grow the confidence to truly believe in myself and it’s allowed me to grow so much. I believe that having a positive and constructive mindset is a really important factor to achieve a goal. I’ve really struggled with opening up in the past and asking for help was a big and helpful step for me. There’s going to be people who try to tear you down, but as long as you know what you want, I believe that you can work for it and get it!
