Deepika Padukone at JNU – PR Stunt or Support? “This Was a Bad Move”

Everything was going so perfect, Deepika Padukone added beautiful feathers to her personal brand by addressing issue of acid attack in India. She is not just playing the role of acid survivor Laxmi Agarwal but is also the producer of the Chhapaak in collaboration with Fox Star Studios.

Last week Deepika celebrated her birthday on Kapil Sharma show along with TKSS team, Meghna Gulzar and Laxmi Agarwal and other acid attack victims. Undoubtedly Deepika made many new fans because she chose the topic that genuinely needs attention; through films, you can change society at least you can change the mindset of many.

Chhapaak would have been game-changer, but Deepika ruined her personal brand terribly. The actor, who was in the city to promote her upcoming film, took time out to visit JNU to lend her support to the protesting students or maybe to promote her film to students who protested the increase in hostel fees to Rupees 300 (almost equivalent to the price movie ticket).

Whatever the situation was, JNU? She wanted to promote a social message – apolitical film at JNU or she was there to support bright anti-national students like Aishe Ghosh and ex-student Kanhaiya Kumar and group. Whatever it was PR Stunt or Support – I would call it self destruction mode. Well, we did Personal Brand Poll on our twitter handle @aboutinsidercom: Deepika Padukone at JNU – PR Stunt or Support? #boycottchhapaak #PersonalBrandPoll #Chhapaak (*Using #boycottchhapaak – Top Trending Hashtag on Twitter)

Over 54% of people feel it was PR Stund, whereas the remaining people feel it was Support.

This wasn’t enough; the makers don’t want to credit the real hero “Lawyer Aparna Bhat” who represented acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in court for several years. Why Deepika? You don’t want anyone else to look like a hero?

We thought Chhapaak unfold the ugly face of masculinity, the insensitivity of society and the flaws of the legal system through story of Laxmi Agarwal but everything seems to be a bit different according to various rumours on social media the makers of the film also changed the name of the acid attacker “Naeem Khan” to “Rajesh”.
