Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh will head The Parliamentary Standing Committee for Science and Technology

The standing committee on Science and Technology, which is headed by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh is scheduled to meet on July 10 to discuss the “preparedness to deal with COVID-19 and other pandemics in future”.

According to Mr. Ramesh, the committee will be deliberating on the vaccines for the coronavirus, including the one that Bharat Biotech International Limited developed in partnership with the Indian Council of Medical Research.

In a statement, Mr. Ramesh said that he had been trying to hold a committee meeting for the last three months. He also insisted on the virtual meetings and said, “Virtual meetings should have been allowed to ensure that the work of parliamentary panels is not halted because of the pandemic.”

The first physical meeting of a Parliamentary Committee was held on June 30 since the budget session on March 23. And the next meeting of the parliamentary panel on Petroleum is scheduled to be held on July 7.
