Born in Southern California, Ashlie has had a passion for entertaining people since she was little. Growing up, acting was a safe place in which she could cry without judgement and was happiest when she saw characters on TV that she could relate to so she didn’t feel alone. Her desire to keep others from feeling unloved or unseen led her down the acting path. Her talent has led her to roles on such TV shows as Hotel Du Loone with Hayley LeBlanc and the long running hit series Modern Family. Ashlie had a lead role in the award-winning poetic short film The Color of Red as well as a lead in the comedic award-winning short Becky Jane’s Big Day. A talented young actress with a big heart, Ashlie Garrett works hard to protect animals, even using her free time to pick up trash along beaches and rivers to protect wildlife from being harmed by the debris. A typical Southern California native, Ashlie loves to go surfing, hiking, or outdoor concerts. A certified make-up artist, Ashlie is also a talented musician that plays piano.
HI! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS ASHLIE GARRETT IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
Thank you so much for having me! My name is Ashlie and I’m an actress, model, and make-up artist based out of Southern California. I’m a very outgoing and spontaneous person that’s always up to try new things or explore new places. I’m extremely empathetic and compassionate towards others and my obsessions I can’t live without are iced coffee, my pet rabbit and flowers.
YOU’RE A TRAINED PIANIST AND A CERTIFIED MAKE-UP ARTIST; WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME AN ACTOR?
I’ve always loved playing music and doing different make-up looks, but acting has always been my favorite way to express myself. Being on stage or in front of the camera feels like being home, it’s where I’m the most vulnerable and comfortable. Acting has not only given me the opportunity to help others step out of their own reality and be able to relate to someone just like them, but also has given me a platform to help affect change in the world.
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR ROLES IN HOTEL DU LOONE AND THE MODERN FAMILY.
In Modern family, my character was an overly competitive perfectionist and in Hotel Du Loone my character Emily was boy obsessed and went through every obstacle she could to meet her favorite boy band. Both characters were crazy in their own way and so much fun to play!
WHAT HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE BEEN LIKE WORKING WITH HAYLEY LEBLANC IN HOTEL DU LOONE?
I loved working on Hotel Du Loone with Hayley LeBlanc. She was such a sweetheart and made being new to the cast such a comfortable and exciting experience!
YOU WORK REALLY HARD TO PROTECT ANIMALS AND THE ENVIRONMENT. WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO THOSE, WHO WOULD LOVE TO PROTECT ANIMALS AND MOTHER EARTH, BUT HESITATING FOR ANY REASON?
I would say if you’re feeling hesitant for any reason, the best thing to do would be to start out by making small changes in your day-to-day life. You can do this by conserving water and electricity when you’re not actively using it at home, avoiding plastic materials and switch them out for more eco-friendly options, or even by carpooling with a friend to work. These little steps can effect the environment in a major way! When it comes to being an animal rights activist, the easiest thing you can do is get informed! Do research online about different causes and use your voice and platform to spread the word on the issues you’re the most passionate about so other people can learn and help out too! If you aren’t sure how else to help, you could also volunteer at a rehabilitation center or offer an extra hand to local shelters. Remember, any positive action will have a positive impact, no matter how big or small that action may be.
WHAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US?
Something about me that might surprise y’all is that I love surfing! I currently surf 2-3 times a week on my 8’6 board. Surfing is one of my favorite things to do in my free time and the ocean has become my happy place!
ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS/ROLES YOU CAN TALK ABOUT?
I do have a couple of upcoming projects that I can’t talk about quite yet but I’ll actually be announcing them in a couple of weeks and I’m so excited for my fans to find out!
