Who are you, where are you from, and what do you do?
My name is Klark Songs, I’m from Boston, and I have set out to change the idea of what it means to be a mainstream music artist. I make songs in every popular genre and am constantly discovering new styles to innovate.
Have you always had a passion for music?
I started out as an opera singer and toured the world for a few years when I was in middle school. After my voice changed, things were going slow for a bit until I got to college, and that’s when my life changed forever. I got a recording setup, started writing my own songs, and my dreams of being an opera singer took an unexpected turn down the route of more mainstream music. I’ve been doing this for less than a year, and have already started gaining a loyal following of people who are willing to go above and beyond in order to support me. Music is more than just a passion for me, it’s my entire life’s purpose.
How has your musical background shaped what you’re doing now?
Since I started out singing opera, it made transitioning into mainstream music a lot easier. Part of the reason I decided to make this drastic change in my life is because I came to the realization that even though I love opera, it’s not a very accessible art form for most people. Having a background in classical music gave me a huge upper hand because of how difficult every aspect of it was. I apply and adapt a lot of what I learned from my past experience into the music that I currently write. My classical music background gives my current songs a very refined and unique sound that I’m dying to be able to share with the world.
What advice would you give other up and coming musicians?
I’m still pretty young and new to all this so I don’t feel like I can speak on this question as much as someone with more experience in the game. But what I will say is if there’s anything I learned, it’s that you won’t get anywhere if you don’t invest time and money into your music. Unless you just happen to blow up over night. No matter how good you are or how good you think you are, you need to have a solid business plan in terms of what you’re going to do with your music and how you’re going to present it to the outside world. Good marketing and high quality content will take you a long way.
