PLEASE, BRIEFLY INTRODUCE YOURSELF, WHO IS DANIELLE RADIN IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
I am a TV news reporter. I am currently helping to launch a news network, called NewsNet, here in California. I am their West Coast Bureau Chief. I live in beautiful San Diego and commute up to Los Angeles for stories on a regular basis. I love being a journalist because I get to meet new people every day and tell their stories.
YOU HAVE AN ENTICING PROFILE, TELL US SOMETHING MORE ABOUT IT?
I try to keep my Instagram profile professional but fun. I like to post things I’m cooking, the beach, hikes, and my two cats. I’m also known for loving tacos (San Diego has some of the best) so I have to post pictures of those when I get them!
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
The key to success is to be authentic. Don’t try to be something that you’re not, viewers and social media users will see right through that. Be yourself, be kind, and people will be attracted to that and want to see your work.
THE INDUSTRY THAT YOU ARE IN IS ALREADY COMPETITIVE, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS SPECIALLY REQUIRED TO SUSTAIN THE COMPETITION AND GROW EXPONENTIALLY AT THE SAME TIME?
Journalism is very competitive because there are few jobs in it and even those are being cut every day. To stay competitive, you have to know the right folks. I have a book on networking where I talk about the importance of putting yourself out there and making connections with people that might be able to help you in your career. It never hurts to reach out to a journalist you admire and ask for advice. That person might keep you in mind the next time there is a job opening.
You can also try to make your own position- that’s what I did with NewsNet. I saw they had newscasts in Los Angeles and San Francisco, but were based in Michigan. I called the manager and told him I love the newscast and want to work for him to build up the California product. He had not thought about this notion before I called. A few months later, NewsNet was sending me a camera and I was employed by them! Sometimes you have to make your own way.

I have worked for stations all over California, and I plan to continue doing that. Once coronavirus is tamed, I’ll be working for CBS Los Angeles, which has been a dream of mine for a while. I have reported from foreign countries too like Cuba, Greece, Mexico, and Panama. In the future, I would like to travel more and stay ahead of the curve in digital journalism. Who knows how we’ll get our news in 5 years from now!
