Actress Julie Haught speaks with About Insider

HI! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS JULIE HAUGHT IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
I am an actor, wife, mother of 4 and have one grandson!  I graduated from the University of Florida and along with being an actor , I have a nursing degree.   I love gardening, cooking and being outdoors.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO BEGIN A CAREER AS AN ACTOR?
When I was in high school I can remember watching the play the theater group was doing and being in such awe.   Thru the years I have always yearned to try acting and when my children were grown I started training and training and training to be an actor!

HOW IMPORTANT IS DEVELOPING A PERSONAL STYLE WHEN IT COMES TO ACTING?
Since all humans are uniquely individual, I think each actor brings something unique and individualistic to a role or project.   We all have lived a different life, and been part of a different life journey so I think this, along with training, helps us create our own style of acting.

WHAT’S CHALLENGING ABOUT BRINGING A SCRIPT TO LIFE?
I think bringing a script to life is one of the most exciting parts of being an actor.  I am very visual, so I can see places, situations, and people in my mind which helps me see the script like a movie when I read it.   Growing up I was a voracious reader so perhaps this is something that manifested itself through reading.

HOW DID ACTING CHANGE YOUR LIFE?
Acting has given me a creative outlet to tell stories and relate to people from all walks of life.  I have made some amazing friends, colleagues and directors this way.   It is always amazing to me how working with someone on set can create such a permanent bond that transcends long after the project is over.

YOU ARE INVOLVED IN ALMOST EVERY ASPECT OF FILMMAKING, BE IT FILM WRITING, OR PRODUCING OR ACTING, OR DIRECTING, WHICH ONE DO YOU LIKE THE MOST?
I am mostly an actor and prefer it.   I have taken some comedy writing classes at the Groundlings in Los Angeles but I would say I excel at it.. LOL

WHAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US?
I played soccer, ran cross country and was on the ultimate frisbee team in college.  I also donated a kidney!

ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS/ROLES YOU CAN TALK ABOUT?
I was blessed to have a role in the upcoming Sylvester Stallone action movie Samaritan which should be out sometime this year (2021).   I also have a small role in the first episode in season 6 of Queen Sugar, produced by Oprah and Ava DuVernay which should air 2021/2022 sometime.

WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO THE BUDDING ACTORS AND ARTISTS OUT THERE?
Take acting classes and be PATIENT.  Never stop training and surround yourself with actors who are better than you.  They will make you better !!
