About Insider Exclusive Interview with Aubin Bradley

Aubin Bradley is best known as the gloomy and cynical Lucy Loud in Nickelodeon’s and Paramount+’s live action-comedy series “The Really Loud House” which is currently filming it’s second season and in Nickelodeon’s original holiday movie “A Loud House Christmas”.  Other notable credits include guest starring roles on the upcoming Apple TV series “Hello Tomorrow”, Netflix’s new series “The Watcher”, Amazon’s “Modern Love”, HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl”, CBS’s “Madam Secretary”, Apple TV’s “Invasion”, SyFy’s “Happy” as well as the voice of the bunny Coco in Cartoon Network’s animated Children’s series “Bing”. On stage, Aubin recently starred as Little Cosette for the Broadway National Tour production of “Les Misérables”.  Off-Broadway she starred in the principal role of Lottie in “The Little Princess” and as Molly in Annie the Musical.

HI, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS AUBIN BRADLEY IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
Of course! I am just a normal kid who goes to a regular school, plays sports, and hangs out with friends who also happens to be on a tv show that she loves doing!

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE SUCCESS OF THE REALLY LOUD HOUSE! HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE A PART OF SUCH A BELOVED ANIMATED SERIES, AND WHAT INITIALLY DREW YOU TO THE PROJECT?
I grew up watching the animated Loud House cartoon series and loved it so when I got the opportunity to audition for the live-action version of this cartoon series, I was really excited!  And of course, auditioning for the role of Lucy Loud is just so much fun.  Who does not want to play the dark and supernatural character who fights with skeleton sticks and can magically appear and disappear?  Being able to bring her to real life for kids all over the world is just special.

LUCY LOUD IS KNOWN FOR HER UNIQUE PERSONALITY AND STYLE. HOW DO YOU CONNECT WITH LUCY ON A PERSONAL LEVEL, AND WHAT ASPECTS OF HER CHARACTER DO YOU FIND MOST INTRIGUING TO EXPLORE?
So Lucy does not show much emotion and is typically very deadpan in her delivery.  I have really enjoyed exploring finding the humor within the boundaries of a dead-pan delivery and personality.  Also, Lucy’s eyes are covered with her bangs, so I need to express so much with the bottom half of my face (basically my mouth)!  This season I continue to develop a more mischievous side to Lucy but really begin to explore the human side of Lucy.  Fans are going to see some of her vulnerabilities and more of her as a human being!

YOU SHARE THE SCREEN WITH YOUR REAL-LIFE SISTER CATHERINE, WHO PLAYS LUAN LOUD. HOW DOES YOUR OFF-SCREEN RELATIONSHIP INFLUENCE YOUR ON-SCREEN CHEMISTRY, AND WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING TOGETHER ON SET?
Working with Cat is the most special part of being on this show. It still amazes me how lucky we were to both be booked as series regulars on the same show and has made this experience extra special. That just never happens.  We are very close, and we are sisters and have the typical sister squabbles, so that makes our interactions on set just real.  We have great moments in the series where we tap battle and in the new musical episode, we continue that tap battle in a hilarious dance number!  In one episode in Season 1, I actually impersonate her character and, in another episode, I actually help Luan find her comedic voice.  I think the writers write scenes for us together a lot because we do have great chemistry on screen!

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR ROLE AS LUCY LOUD? ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC RITUALS OR TECHNIQUES YOU USE TO GET INTO CHARACTER?
I usually listen to music to chill me out before I go on set.  And once my magnetic bangs are in place and suddenly I cannot see, I am in full Lucy mode. I find not being over rehearsed and just in the moment is the best strategy for me.

YOU’VE HAD A DIVERSE CAREER SPANNING TV, FILM, AND THEATER. LOOKING BACK, WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE MOST DEFINING MOMENTS OR HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR ACTING JOURNEY SO FAR?
A defining moment for me was the first time I stepped out on stage in front of thousands as Little Cosette in Broadway’s Les Misérables and sang “Castle on A Cloud.”  I was terrified as the lights went up and I was in front of all these people, but I did it! And then as I was singing, I realized the microphone did not come on! I then sang so loud that everyone could hear me.  I realized at that moment I was singing for them, the audience, and not me.  That is what acting is about, telling powerful or just fun stories for people to enjoy.

ASIDE FROM THE REALLY LOUD HOUSE, DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER UPCOMING PROJECTS OR ROLES THAT YOU’RE PARTICULARLY EXCITED ABOUT?
I am in New Mexico right now for the next few months finishing up the last ten episodes of Season 2 and Season 1 just dropped on Paramount+.  I am also going to be working on a new movie which I am in discussions on!

8. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY, AND HOW HAVE THEY INFLUENCED YOUR APPROACH TO ACTING?
I love Jenna Ortega, as she plays Wednesday Adams and is incredible in the role, but the truth is my biggest inspiration is my sister, Cat. I have learned so much from her, starting when I was really little.  She worked so hard to get where she is, and she just goes for it . . . shs is fearless. She is so funny, such a great entertainer and singer.  She can do the most gut wrenching dramatic scenes and then turn around and do a comedic skit that has you laughing so hard it hurts. Seeing her in action as Luan and making the entire crew and cast just die laughing makes me really proud of my big sister.  Cat is also just kind and always positive and happy.  She is a great role model for me and others!

WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED THROUGHOUT YOUR ACTING CAREER, AND WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING ACTORS LOOKING TO BREAK INTO THE INDUSTRY?
Never change who you are!  What makes you unique is what makes you shine in the audition room.
